Bookkeeping: Thoughts on tonight

Do y'all still want to have a discussion night? My thinking was that Derik, as this week's chapter leader, would post a conversation starter and we would all get down in the comments beneath his question, which would corral the conversation some and allow readers who aren't also posters to take part in the discussion. In the meantime, GDC posters who have other drunken inspiration that's off the proposed topic would, of course, be free to post whatever pleases them on the wall and we can wander into those comments boxes as well.

Thoughts? I think we were suggesting a start time later in the evening, to allow the other time zones to join in.

I can't guarantee I'll be around this evening, but if lucks holds I'll be at a friend's with a far faster connection than I.

I'd rather not post a specific question. I hope that my original summary/comments on the chapter can provide some grist for the mill.

My one concern about that is that there should be a conversational hub point that people can flock around, if you follow me. Maybe just a post that sez "Talk here"?

Then we can each take up what's been in our minds and go from there.

p.s. I hope you end up with a speedy connection ...

Ah, good point. All right. I'll post something a bit later in the day.

Talk here post sounds good to me. Estimated time?

I'll be around and semi-coherent. I have notes!

i like the idea of a group discussion tonight (preferably a little late for you East-coasters, since I'm on the West coast). It may be best to have several posts touching on various topics, so that we can have many threads going at once to keep things a bit more orderly (instead of everyone just posting to one non-topical thread).

should we have more than 1 person write a conversation-starter? if so, i can add in something around 4 pm my time and then jump back in on the conversation later in the night.

That sounds good, Scott, though I wouldn't worry about too much orderliness on drinking nights. ;-) I just didn't want things to become too spread out, with everyone posting their own things (in sort of serial monologue), and no one "talking" to each other in comments. That's all -- but I think creating a few different circles is great. I'm looking forward to the discussion.

I'd love to, but a prior dinner engagement means I won't be home until laaaaaate (prolly 11pm EST). I'll check in then to see if anyone's game.
